: I think there has been enough research, literature and discussion about KM that we can clearly see two traditions or schools to emerge from the mass. If we first take apart the philosophical or academic view trying to structurize what we already know and these (often fuzzy) organizational approaches what do we have left? We have the American approach - mainly concentrating on the tools or enablers of KM, i.e. IT or the results of a succesful KM, i.e. the intellectual property.

:
: The European School, however, focuses on intellectual capital, that is human skills, information and the creativity as a enabler to produce the needed ideas and innovations to compete. It has it´s roots in the research of Karl Erik Sveiby and Leif Edvinsson. Their model, called the "Navigator", however, seems to lack all dymanism. People and their skills are more or less only part of the total value of a firm.

:
: My collegue, Dr. Pirjo Stahle and myself workat the moment on a large pilot project at a telecom company to build the first "dynamic KM model" which has been tested in practice, too.

: I will be glad to report the results, if someone is interested.

: I myself made my doctoral thesis on the foundation of "the economics of intellectual capital" where KM has been seen as a vital tool to harness the organizational intellectual capital and use it as the other traditional factors of production (land, labour and capital), too. The research based on the papers of Paul Romer of Stanford University, known as "The New Theory of Growth". I can give some links if needed.

: Dr. Pirjo Stahle had her dissertation on the "konowledge environments of an organization", a theory which enabled us to develop the first method to measure the reneweal potential of a company. Knowing this, one can start to build a KM -system in practice in any kind of organization.

I am ınterested in the subject. Please report the results for my scientific research.
